John Cheah - A follower of Christ, an Idealist, an Engineer, a Musician and a human beingReflections from my past. Idea's for the future July 19 A sure sign you don't sound like a native speaker of ChineseI ordered a meal at a restaurant in Chinese and when I was done the waitress said to me "Well done."
I've still a long way to go to be able to sound authentic... July 08 A Cold Day to Wear ShortsToday I decided to wear shorts - It was an unfortunate day to do something like that.
I got up at 6.30 am to go to uni (normal time) and found that for the first time my car was so frozen that the seals were stuck to the car and the wipers to the windscreen. I had to pry open the boot and doors and slowly work away at getting my wipers movable. It goes without saying that the walk to uni was numbing =).
A long term injury I picked up in my right wrist is starting to ache again...
I checked the met service and aparrently it was 4 degC this morning. Tomorrow is going to be 3 degC. On Wednesday overnight temperatures are predicted to go down to 1 degC. I dont' think Auckland has been that cold before. If it goes much lower Auckland can have permanent snow! I was also surprised to see that last night, just 1 hour south of Auckland (Hamilton) was at -3 degC. Times are changing. July 03 Enginuity Day at UoAToday was Enginuity Day at the University of Auckland, a day when the Engineering faculty holds an event to advertise to high school girls the wonderful opportunities and future for them in Engineering. I helped out with the Civil Engineering activity - Building Truss and Suspension bridges with flexible plastic pieces resembling Lego Technic. It was quite enjoyable to be involved in leading the activity and talking (advertising) about Civil Engineering. The teams worked well together with 2 teams building bridges stronger than we could load! I was surprised how many girls came from for away places (out of Auckland) for this event. June 25 Funny YoutubeI'm sure there are many many funny things on youtube - this is one I stumbled across, it's called
Ball Girl Makes Incredible Catch
Ahaha! Funny.
I finished exams today. Can you tell? June 18 Seeing the bigger pictureToday I was inspired (once again) through a lecturer at UoA to live a life motivated and guided by passion and to not let things that take away my (responsible version of) freedom. To live a life full and as myself. To make my own moulds and conform to only what I believe in (not just religious). How wonderful it is to get a reminder like this. Thank God. |
